Mission: “To help individual donors and charitable organizations meet the needs of the Greater Yellowstone Region.”

Following the hire of our first Executive Director in 2017, the Foundation has continued to grow its presence and expand its capacity. In just three short years, we’ve hired additional staff, assisted new donors and businesses in meeting their charitable giving goals, facilitated connections with organizations making an impact, increased non-profit training opportunities, created new programs, and expanded others. We continue to respond expediently to the changing needs of our community.

The Billings Community Foundation’s vision is to continue providing local leadership, promoting community opportunities, and encouraging collaboration for regional non-profits, individuals, and businesses to benefit the Yellowstone Valley and surrounding communities!

Since 2007, Billings Community Foundation has been your local partner for philanthropy and charitable giving in Billings and the Greater Yellowstone Valley. As a ‘regional community foundation’, our service encompasses many rural communities of south-central and south-eastern Montana located in Yellowstone, Musselshell, Rosebud, Custer, Treasure, Bighorn, Carbon, Stillwater, and Fergus County.

The predecessor to the Billings Community Foundation was the Greater Yellowstone Region Committee (GYR) of the Montana Community Foundation (MCF). In 2006, members of the GYR committee formed a separate, local community foundation to promote philanthropy and distribute grants from the MCF Matthews-Dousman Memorial Endowment Fund. Today, the partnership between our organizations continues, and we work collaboratively to support local non-profits through a competitive grant cycle.

Since its inception in 2007, the Billings Community Foundation has distributed over $3,700,000 in grants and distributions to support charitable organizations and projects throughout the Yellowstone Valley region. In addition to grant-making activities, the Foundation partners with area non-profits to provide capacity-building workshops, assist clients utilizing the Montana Charitable Income Tax Credit, establish endowments, manage Donor Advised Funds, create Area of Interest Funds, and much more while offering consultations upon request!

“People have lived and thrived in the Yellowstone Valley for centuries. We will work together to sustain a community where everyone can succeed.”
